1854 - 1855
Marie and Clara Schumann, Düsseldorf, around 1854/55
Daguerreotype by Wilhelm Severin
Robert Schumann House, Zwickau
Here, Clara is seen with her eldest daughter, thirteen-year-old Marie, who at that time had already lost her father, the same as her siblings. After Robert Schumann had been accommodated at the mental home in Bonn-Endenich since February 1854, the children no longer saw him again. Marie spent her life with her mother, took care of the household and her siblings when Clara was on concert tours, and accompanied her later on these journeys and also, together with her sister Eugenie Marie, supported her during the Frankfurt years in teaching her piano students.
