In March 1887, Clara Schumann, together with her daughter Marie, set out for her eighteenth and penultimate journey to England. The pianist gave eight acclaimed concerts in London, and several photographs of her were also taken at that time. The dedicatee, Antonie Kwast (1850-1931), was the daughter of the composer Ferdinand Hiller, who in 1877 had married the Dutch pianist and music teacher James Kwast. Before her marriage, she was an actress.
