Steel engraving, around 1838
Robert Schumann met Thibaut as one of his law professors in Heidelberg. He rather preferred the invitations of his professor to musical events at his home than attending his lectures. Thanks to Thibaut Heidelberg was made with performances of the by himself founded Music Society to an center of care for older music. Already in the 1820s, Thibaut published an essay "On the purity of Music", which - although not very critical – was conducive to the rediscovery of music of Bach. (I.B.)
