On 8 December 1985, the nonprofit association Robert-und-Clara-Schumann-Verein-Leipzig-Inselstraße-18 e.V. was founded. The name of the association gives direct explanation of its aim: It is dedicated to the care oft he cultural heritage, which is related to the life and work of the artists Schumann in their first residence in Leipzig Inselstraße. The permanent exhibition in the historic residential areas as well as the organization of concerts and readings are the main pillars of this institution. On the wedding anniversary of Robert and Clara Schumann (12.9.), as well as on Clara’s birthday (13.9.), the association organizes an annual Schumann festival (“Schumann-Woche”) with numerous events, not only in the Schumann House, but also in the wedding church of Robert and Clara Schumann in Leipzig Schönefeld.
