Mathilde Verne (1865–1936)
Mathilde Verne studied in the mid-1880s for four years with Clara Schumann, about the same time as Fanny Davies. She must have been very appreciated by her teacher because Mathilde was entrusted with the piano training of her granddaughter Julie. After finishing her studies in Frankfurt, Verne went back to London where she began to teach and started a successful career. At the beginning, she was teaching next to Franklin Taylor, her English teacher, at the Royal College of Music, but later she founded her own school. Among her best known students is Harold Samuel (1879-1937).
