Eduard Kaiser, a native of Graz, created two lithographs of the Schumann couple during their stay in Vienna in 1847: the double portrait of Clara and Robert Schumann displayed in here, and a single portrait of the composer (cf. Fig. 2). In spite of the artist couple's prominence, Clara Schumann was unable to replicate in 1847 her big triumph of 1837/38 and in fact owed her only full concert in Vienna to the participation of the singer Jenny Lind. The present copy of the lithograph, produced with an unknown number of copies and kept in Zwickau, is provided with a handwritten dedication by Clara and Robert Schumann to their friend from Zwickau, Emanuel Klitzsch.
