– Thun postal boat (3) – annoying Englishmen – German journeyman – quiet Frenchman – feeling bored – gloomy cold wind
– arriving in Thun (2) – insistent Gruner – away – from [Hotel] Freyenhof* [sic] – to [Hotel] Krone – first feel of the Bernese Oberland – sweet, fine faces and powerful, healthy builds – Marie at [Hotel] Krone and her harsh judgement of the French and Germans – cheap and cheerful lunch – the French coachman – very cute Thun – parting from Marie – taking a fast coach – threatening sky – Bernese villages – so beautiful and idyllic, even with this beastly weather – cigars from the Rhine trip finished – beautiful view of Berne
