The picture shows Clara's father in the year when he first met Robert Schumann in person, who took his first piano lessons in August 1828 from the well-known Leipzig piano teacher, who had clearly demonstrated his excellent talents, particularly with his child prodigy Clara. Even at the time of their first acquaintance, Friedrich Wieck, who later did everything in his power to prevent his daughter's marriage to Robert Schumann, also ran a music business in Leipzig and traded in pianos.
