Johann Vesque of Püttlingen was - like Grillparzer - Austrian civil servant and worked temporarily as concert director of the Society of Friends of Music in Vienna. As a pianist, composer and writer, he performed with his pseudonym "J. van Hoven" - which composer's special devotion can be read from it easily! Vesque von Püttlingen supported Robert Schumann in his (unsuccessful) settlement efforts in Vienna. The later sustained friendship was beclouded only briefly, as Vesque von Püttlingen received a malevolent letter on Robert Schumann from Leipzig (presumably by Friedrich Wieck), who wanted to make Schumann look bad and also prevent his appointment in Vienna.
