In 2010, around the 200^th anniversary of the birth of Robert Schumann, the Saxon Vocal Ensemble, founded in Dresden in 1996 by Matthias Jung as the Artistic Director and still conducted by him today, which had grown within a short time into one of the most distinguished German and internationally respected ensembles, set a new benchmark with a magnificent Schumann festival 2010 lasting several days, and hence a musical tradition was initiated that was continued with great success in the form of an annual Robert Schumann Festival in Dresden [Project Manager: Anita Brückner] with focus on establishing a relationship and dialogue both between Schumann and his contemporaries and all other musical epochs. The cooperation partners were/are the Institute of Art History and Musicology at Dresden University of Technology, the Carl Maria von Weber Hochschule of Music in Dresden, and the Friends’ Association of the Great Garden Palace.

In 2012, the management of the Saxon Vocal Ensemble became actively involved in establishing a Robert and Clara Schumann commemorative path in Dresden, along which authentic places are to be marked with medallions explaining the respective Schumann references.
