Michael Schuncke Foundation
Since the end of 2007, the non-profit "Michael Schuncke Foundation" exists, which launched in 2008 the first award for hornists. To allow an appropriate award in the future, the new Michael Schuncke Foundation settled in the city of Baden-Baden hopes for (tax deductible) donations.

Only hornists award was created
The only hornists prize of its kind is awared for the first time in 2008 by the new charitable Michael Schuncke Foundation. It is connected to the Philharmony in the Schumann city Baden-Baden. Mayor, Chief Conductor, city treasurer and founder form the foundation board.
The annual winner will perform in a concert of Baden-Baden Philharmony. Donations are asked to be sent to: Baden-Baden city treasury (Stadtsparkasse Baden-Baden Gaggenau IBAN DE98 6625 0030 0030 2844 18, BIC SOLADES1BAD, Use: Michael Schuncke Foundation).
The first hornist to be awarded was Renate Hupka, principal hornist at the Lower Saxony State Opera in Hanover, who received her award on 9 November 2008 during a matinee concert under the conduction of Pavel Baleff at the Baden-Baden Philharmony.
The winner of 2009, Quirin Rast, Munich, from a Bavarian family of musicians, received the prize on 11 October 2009 at the Weinbrenner Hall of Kurhaus Baden-Baden, again linked with a performance with the Baden-Baden Philharmonic.
As a prize winner in 2010, Robert Langbein, principal hornist of Staatskapelle Dresden, received the award on 18 February 2011 and premiered with the Baden-Baden Philharmonic the „Concertino pour le cor chromatique“ by Johann Christoph Schuncke (1791-1856) in the Weinbrenner Hall of Kurhaus Baden-Baden.
The winner of 2011 is Andreas Pöchel, the winner of 2012 is Christoph Eß and the winner of 2015 is Peter Müseler.
