Mathilde Verne (1865–1936)

Mathilde Verne studied with Clara Schumann in the mid-1880s for four years, at approximately the same time as Fanny Davies. She must have been very appreciated by her teacher, as Clara entrusted her with the piano training of her granddaughter Julie. After completing her studies in Frankfurt, Verne returned to London where she began a successful career as a teacher herself. At the beginning, she taught along with Franklin Taylor, her British teacher, at the Royal College of Music, but later founded her own school. Harold Samuel (1879-1937) was amongst her best-known pupils.
