[Monday, 7th September – healthy awakening – to Bellinzona by stagecoach – more vicious weather – the Genevan – the handsome merchant – the Italian woman from Bedretto – talk in Italian, French and German – crossing the [River] Ticino through a crevice – waterfalls – the frothing Ticino – more beautiful than the Devil’s Bridge – all of a sudden the whole Italian sky – the heavenly Leventina Valley – mulberry trees – chestnut trees – groves – rich array – the gentle [River] Ticino – getting more and more beautiful – vicious weather – Faido – Osogna – few pretty faces – arriving in Bellinzona (1) – the loving couple – excellent Italian lunch – parting from the said people – and lonely ride to Magadino on a Hamburg carriage [?] – the Chapel in Bellinzona – rain – thunderbolts – Lake Maggiore – gran albergo al lago [sic] [= Grande Albergo al lago. Hotel, possibly now renamed or defunct] (2) – blissfulness – [the River] Albano! – big thunderstorm and the shining Lake – letter to Julius not completed – vines at an Italian house and drifting thunderstorms – sleep -]
