About this concert
Under Pierre Laurent-Aimard’s artistic direction, the Aldeburgh Festival received a 2012 Royal Philharmonic Society Award not least for the depth and imagination of his programming. Those qualities apply equally to the choice of repertoire for his recital with Christiane Oelze.
Aspects of love inform each collection of songs to be performed in this concert, from the multifaceted emotions of Schumann’s Frauenliebe und -leben to Messiaen’s elusive, complex exploration of the Wagnerian notion of lovedeath in his rarely heard song-cycle Harawi.
